Happy 1st Birthday to BEYOND^® WhiteSpa!

BEYOND^® WhiteSpa is proud to be celebrating its one year anniversary! The BEYOND^® WhiteSpa system was introduced last year at the 2006 Cosmoprof North America show in Las Vegas, NV, USA and has had an amazing year of growth and development. Having taken the cosmetic beauty market by storm, BEYOND^® WhiteSpa continues to set the standard for high-quality cosmetic teeth whitening for salons and spas.

We expect the next year to be even bigger and better and are looking forward to continuing our commitment to providing top-quality service and products. We are also going to be promoting more education about cosmetic teeth whitening and this newsletter is part of that plan.

We want this newsletter to be a learning resource for you; to increase your knowledge and understanding of cosmetic teeth whitening. BEYOND^® is offering free online training sessions for BEYOND^® WhiteSpa. All you need is an Internet connection, a webcam, a microphone, and between 30-60 minutes of time to undergo our training. We will send you a small piece of software that will enable you to link into our training office and watch a live demonstration of the whitening treatment and ask our resident WhiteSpa expert all of your questions in real time. After you have completed the training, we’ll send you a certificate of completion that you can frame and display in your salon or spa.

Since this is a new feature, if you have already received BEYOND^® WhiteSpa training and would like a certificate of completion too, let us know and we’ll be happy to send one to you straight away.

In certain areas, new regulations have stipulated that the BEYOND^® WhiteSpa procedure be self-administered by the client under trained aesthetician supervision. We have developed the BEYOND^® WhiteSpa Self-Prep Pack to assist with this new treatment variation. These new packs contain all of the extra items that your client will need to self-administer the WhiteSpa treatment and also contain important information on how to perform this procedure. Q: We have a potential client who suffers from vitiligo are we able to perform the BEYOND^® WhiteSpa treatment and if so is there any further advise?

A: From my understanding of vitiligo, there is a potential risk of the hydrogen peroxide in the whitening gel aggravating the client's condition further. My recommendation is to err on the side of caution and recommend to the client that he or she talk with his or her doctor before undergoing the WhiteSpa treatment.

Q: I have a client who wants to whiten his teeth further. How long should I wait before repeating the treatment?

A: This can depend on the individual and what they want to see from the whitening treatment. If you have a client who wants to see dramatic whitening results in a short amount of time, you can recommend that they come back in to your clinic about a week after the first treatment for an additional touch-up treatment (either one or two more 20 minute sessions). You will need to warn them beforehand that there is a greater risk of sensitivity from this touch-up treatment, but that this is transient and will pass within 24-48 hours.

Many clients may want to come back in to your clinic in about three months for a touch-up session. There is enough gel in each WhiteSpa syringe to do four, 20 minute applications. So you can store their extra gel for them in your clinic (see our website for more information on storing extra whitening gel) and include this as part of the initial whitening package.

Ultimately, it is up to you and your client to determine how often they would like a touch-up, if at all. Each person has their own needs and expectations from their whitening treatment. It is difficult to over-whiten, but some precautions should be taken into account before embarking on a rigorous whitening program.
